Evaluation of my Video!

In what ways does you media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The conventions which are presented with in a horror movie are: Frightened or panicked, cause dead and alarm, invoke our hidden fears, captivating and entertain the audience in a surreal experience, often concluded with a terrifying finale.
My product uses the forms and conventions quite well in some scenes. One noticeable scene is the one when you can see a mysterious silhouette after half of the video it was filmed from her point of view, as it didn’t allowing the audience to see who the killer is. Also the change in light, as the dark had covered the silhouette and it reveals after she walk in the light. I also use generic conventions such as killing and weapons. The stabbing scene I cut it off as the opening was counted too long, however the scene goes until the silhouette is about to do the job. The finales of the video again uses the conventions as it ends with a terrifying scene leaving the audience to ask “he killed the child isn’t it?”
In this kind of films generally the perfect victims are females in their late teenage time and blond. However I have challenged the forms and conventions as I used a male victim, child. Moreover I have also challenged the forms and conventions on the killer as it is a woman in her early adult age. The fear  the a horror movie presents is the terror of unknown, and that what I presented I the killer is not known,  she is mysterious and will be found out further on  in the movie. My video is inspired form the film of The Eye. This is because the character wasn’t afraid aft eh world around when she was blind, after the eye operation when she started seeing again but blurry she kept seeing dead people which were following her. So my killer is not seen because after all she can be your friend/girlfriend.

How does you media product represent particular social groups?
The main social groups represented my media video are mainly the male young adults age between 18-25years. This is because they are more stereotyped with these kinds of things, as we see them on news killing friends and family members because they are on drugs or alcohol and they feel powerful to take someone’s life away. The statuses which are represented can be B and BC and it can be all races. I conform to the conventions of this genre through a couple of things: my killer has a trademark, so at the end of the film she could get tracked down and this is the glovers with the pink bow at the side, and also as the end finishes in suspense and leaving the audience to think about what will happen. I am also running opposite to them and i use a girl for the killer as it suppose to be the other way round and the killer to be a man.

What kind of media institution might distribute you media product and why?
For the distributor for my video I have used Lionsgate because they have made a horror film which was near my idea even doe all other institutions like MGM and Warner bros has made really good horror films, however talking in real life I don’t think that any famous and big company will ever distribute my video. This is because they have become too professional and high standard. However my video if not distributed by a famous company, it could be by an armature company worldwide, who some can have full services distribution and film production. Being realistic I don’t think it would be taken behind the screens and TV screens. What i think would suit my opening is a lot of promotion so people get aware of it and maybe a release on DVD. I think that my video will be described as “gruesome” this is because my mise-en-scene is gruesome and the sound effects make it even more frightful. My video will maybe have other examples in other forms but with the same idea therefore I don’t think will be released as it doesn’t have a unique ideas that could attracts the audience and offer them something new.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my media video will be teenagers to young adults, the age between 15 and hitting 25. I also think that other age males and females could turn up to watch it because it could be quite scary, however I think there will be more female coming, this is because what I have made it may be scary but for some men id quite mild as they prefer something more heart jumping. But also that the killer is a lady it will make it more interesting for the ladies

How would you attract/address you audience?
As I said my target audience are teens and young adults age 15 to 25 which are maybe full time students and if not they are at work for the whole day. The film wouldn’t appeal to any younger age as the emotional impacts is too high and because they are aware that people get murder and die which is not something very pleasing and watching this film will affect them too much. However if presented in a cinema and this genre people turn up to watch it they will find out that they could make connections to some other horror films they have seen. The editing is essential in attracting the audience especially in a horror movie as the special effects have the biggest impact on the audience. I think my editing is looking pretty good and when I was editing I especially focused on the soundtracks with the special effects of them. Also the shots and angles you use. In my piece I’ve used a range of camera angles and shots to create the atmosphere needed and make it as real as it can be. I have also attracted my target audiences through the social networking as I’ve advertised my video and it worked as people went to check it out. So them could go for their curiosity to go on the video could end up watching it all as the new scary information is given to them, keeping the interested.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?
I have realised and told from some viewers that the quality of the camera wasn’t so good. As being transferred of the Mac to get edited to look really good however when it gets exported onto the usb and then on YouTube the quality has gone. It was also quite hard to film without good lighting when needed or even it the dark scene, could’ve been some good lighting to make things easier to be seen. Because of this I shot again the scene outside with some lights in order for the audience to see something, little bit, but also used some torches which made more light. Sound was alright at the camera, which was picking up every detail and bang and noise made by the camera person and the character. All my filming was done outside and inside my house, and there wasn’t any need for green screen. However when I’ve edit it in the Mac imovie software I had used some sound track and I was combining the and some special effects which i didn’t have I real life but that was is sync with the movements  making the video more professional and more into the horror side.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression fro it to the full product?
The editing of the video which in the main task was fully done because the genre was easier to work with. For my preliminary task I did edit it however i didn’t add no soundtrack and no special effects which makes the audience more drawn into the product, feeling the atmosphere of their skins. Now I feel more confident in the use of the editing software after i used it fully and understood what I have to do for every choice I had and also how to cut from several footage only the essential part of it in order to fulfil the time given. I feel that the end product is quite good as the comments for it were more positive than negative. And the only thing which i think it needed more work on is the sound in one place and one of the scene which jumps a little bit.
Also for my preliminary task I was working within a group and we also did for the main task, however there was small issues and I decided to work on my own with a fresh idea even doe i have contributed with the basic ideas on the group video.

The feedback from my target audience

Right after I edited the video at school and export the video on my usb, I posted it of YouTube, and announced all my friends to watch it and give me feed back after it. I also asked people ages 20 and above as these were my target audience and teenagers my age and a bit older. Some of the give me some really good feed back as they said that they felt the video ,as it made them scared a bit because of the sounds used and editing techniques. Some told me thatà “it’s pretty good but camera quality can be improved”.
